Our Mission
"PROVIDE SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD TO THOSE IN NEED,
PRESERVING THE DIGNITY OF THOSE WE HELP".
Food Bank Operations
The Food Bank has a board of directors and is registered with the
State of Washington and the federal government as a non-profit corporation.
The executive director is Julie A. Morris.
There are approximately 70 volunteers who donate their time working at
the food bank and picking up food seven days a week. Volunteers are the "Heart"
of our program!
Donations are made by individuals, churches, clubs, groups, schools, businesses, etc.
Many advocates will have special food and/or fund drives or special events to benefit
the food bank. At Christmas the “Precious Packages” program provides new donated toys,
gloves, hats, etc., to children in need. In August the food bank gives out donated school supplies and backpacks
to under privileged children.
The food bank purchases bulk food to stretch its dollars and widen the distribution.
We distribute packaged and canned goods, frozen or fresh meats, packaged dairy
products, fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables, breads and pastries. We do not
prepare food or serve hot meals. However, the food bank provides recipes,
cooking instructions and demonstrations.
The food bank distributes food three half days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays,
and Fridays from 9:00 am to 11:30 am, and Monday evenings from 6:00 pm to
7:00 pm. Donors can also drop donations off a half hour prior to opening.
Many more volunteer hours are spent in administrative capacities, public relations,
meal planning, maintenance, hauling and delivering food, etc.
We try to give enough food for each individual to have at least 10 meals per week.
We also oversee the distribution of four government supplemental food programs,
working closely with Volunteers of America, Northwest Harvest, Food Lifeline, and the Snohomish
County Food Bank Coalition.
